Another multi-generational farmer that we thoroughly enjoy working with. Pieter’s citrus orchards run for more than 60km along the Eastern Cape’s Sundays River Valley. The farming operations are energy intensive with over 26 citrus varieties; they cannot afford unreliable and interrupted power. We’ve taken a phased approached to the solar system implementation on the farm.
Starting first with an initial 200kW ground mounted system on land that was unsuitable for farming, and then expanding that to the now 350kW system. A few years later as the operations on the farm grew, they built a brand new packhouse and we installed a 550kW rooftop solar pv system to meet their increased energy demands. The combined total system size on the farm is now 900kW. The system is in place to run the irrigation pumps as well the newly built state of the art packhouse.
